“Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights above. Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts.”

-- Psalm 148:1-2

Have you ever been to a Chiefs game, especially when they were good? Eighty thousand people would rise their feet singing the praises of Priest Holmes, or Tony Gonzalez or Derrick Thomas. And these were mere men, with many faults. Too many times, those choruses of praise would turn to boos. But our times of gathering together are to give praise to the God of wonders (Deuteronomy 10:21).

It makes us wonder what it will be like when we‘re gone from this world and in the very presence of God. We imagine that part of it will be non-stop corporate worship. There are too many examples in the Bible of His saints worshiping Him for that not to be a big part of it. Most of us have had the experience of being in a worship service that moved us so much it inspired us to serve God in a more impactful way.

Wednesday night, June 3, from 7-9 p.m. at Shawnee Mission Park‘s Theater in the Park, we’ll do our best imitation of Heaven as we gather for the “God of This City” worship night. We expect more than 3,000 people worshiping Him together, but we’d love to be surprised with an overflow crowd. We’ll be led by a collection of worship leaders from participating churches, and we’ll celebrate communion and recite the Apostles’ Creed together. Last year was a very moving time as we prepared for our group serve day. This year, we’ll celebrate the work day from the previous weekend.

What if...? is a complementary and cooperative movement in Kansas City where churches of different styles, tribes, and sizes are banding together to do and be the church together. Did we mention "together"?

In 2008, three churches came together in relationship to accomplish what no one church could accomplish alone. Through mutual respect and friendship those three churches grew to eleven churches in 2009.  We are now praying that thirty churches will come together in 2010 as a Light of unity and partnership in Kansas City! See the list of churches below who have already committed to partnering together for What IF the Church...? 2010

It all started with the humble heart of one church reaching out to another asking What If...?
